Events – “Training on Tackling Hate Speech” held in Strumica

The third training of the series of trainings for tackling hate speech in the media took place on October 20, 2015 in Strumica. These trainings organized by the Metamorphosis Foundation and the OSCE Mission to Skopje are primarily intended for editors, journalists and news portals administrators. The one-day training was attended by 25 representatives of the media, including representatives of the local media that informed the public about this training. The trainings aim to strengthen the capacity of online media personnel in Macedonia to recognize and tackle hate speech and speech inciting violence and hate crimes, and to promote the professional journalistic standards in synergy with the Media Fact-Checking Service. Free media and freedom of expression in Macedonia

The International Institute of Human Rights and Peace in Caen, partner in the Decentralised Cooperation Lower Normandy/Macedonia, together with the Embassy of France in Skopje, dedicated two working days this February where the freedom of expression and media in Macedonia were analyzed.

Training held: Identifying and dealing with stereotypes and discrimination

The training on identifying and dealing with stereotypes and discrimination took place on October 30 in the GEM club in Skopje. It was intended for journalists participating in USAID’s Media Strengthening in Macedonia Project – Media Fact Checking Service Component implemented by Metamorphosis. The four-hour training was attended by 15 journalists who learned more about how stereotypes are created and what they mean, but more importantly – they were familiarized with the basics of discrimination, its types, the dangers arising from it, as well as the methods for its prevention in the media. There was also a discussion about positive discrimination or affirmative actions taken by the countries, providing certain advantages to certain groups who were subject to discriminatory practices

Announcement: Hiring journalists – reviewers

Metamorphosis Foundation is publishing an announcement for temporary engagement of journalists – reviewers as part of USAID’s Strengthening Media in Macedonia Project – Media Fact-Checking Service Component, intended for publishing journalist reviews, critical discourse analysеs and journalist lessons. Journalists-reviewers will be part of the team of journalists who will be identifying important daily news, conducting reviews of such content and occasionally write longer articles for public educationregarding the implementation of journalist standards. Candidates should meet the following criteria:
  • graduates in the field of journalism, communications or a related field;
  • their professional media engagement is based on the Code of Journalists of Macedonia or any other equivalent code of ethical and professional standards adopted by the relevant organization of journalists
